What Experience Has Taught Me About Being a Woman

It's all about
the careful balance,
the neatly
peanut-butter-and-jellied slices
of white bread,
the loving sliding pressure
of my heavy massaging hands
across his aching back,
the lack of even a blink of an eye
or the remnant of a sigh
when he forgets to call,
the hiding of tears
in the bathroom with
cold water and make-up,
the silentunyieldingconstant
giving of every atom of self
that I possess.
It's about my nature
of being a woman---
give and give
and not even the sparkle
of an opportunity
to receive
